Over the past month, I’ve spent seven days a week in the trenches, traveling between major auctions, the ANA Convention, the Long Beach Coin Expo, and countless long days buying, selling, researching, and negotiating.
And after seeing the market firsthand, I’m happy to report:
The rare coin market is very peppy.
Buying and selling activity has been strong across the board, while the bullion markets remain robust with active trading and continued demand.
Auction Results Tell the Story
The auction results over the past month were impressive, particularly at the top end of virtually every major market segment.
Collectors, investors, and dealers are demonstrating a willingness to pay up for the right coins, especially coins that combine rarity, popularity, exceptional quality, and strong eye appeal.
That is an important distinction.
The market isn’t simply chasing coins.
It is chasing the BEST coins.
The Bourse Floors Were Busy
The ANA Convention was loud, active, and robust, with strong activity throughout the bourse. The new format at the Long Beach Coin Expo continues to draw crowds and generate meaningful buying activity as well.
At Finest Known, we were equally aggressive.
We added more than 600 new coins to our inventory, representing a broad cross section of the numismatic market, with a particular emphasis on acquiring exceptional-quality ancient coins.
And our experience in the ancient market was especially encouraging.
Ancient Coins Are Where I See the Biggest Opportunity
Ancient coin auctions were extremely impressive, with several records established for some of the rarest pieces offered.
That strength, combined with the recent announcement that PCGS will now grade ancient coins, could prove to be a major catalyst for the entire market.
I believe third-party grading from a major American grading service has the potential to bring ancient coins to a much broader audience of collectors and investors.
And this is why I continue to believe that ancient coins represent one of the strongest opportunities for appreciation in all of numismatics over the coming years.
You have a market with thousands of years of history, genuine rarity, limited supply, increasing institutional recognition, and now the potential to reach an entirely new generation of collectors and investors.
We’re Buying
After a month like this, I’m more bullish than ever on the rare coin market. But I’m also more selective than ever.
At Finest Known, our objective remains the same: find the coins that deserve to be owned.
Rare. Historic. High quality. Exceptional.
The market is moving, and we intend to be right in the middle of it.
Stay tuned. We have a lot of exciting new acquisitions coming your way.

With ancient coins gaining momentum, and with PCGS entering the market, I believe there has never been a more compelling time to understand this extraordinary segment of numismatics.
My new 2nd Edition of Gold Coins of Ancient Rome is now available, featuring expanded research, census information, pricing history, and more than 270 pages devoted to some of the most important Roman gold coins ever struck.
If you want to know why I believe ancient coins may offer one of the greatest opportunities in numismatics today, take a look inside the new edition. See below.
