The 1 Utah Goldback introduces the series with a powerful portrayal of Prudentiae, or Prudence, the foundational virtue from which many others stem. She is elegantly represented as a Native American woman, adorned with symbolic elements derived from Utah’s five principal tribes: the Ute, Paiute, Goshute, Shoshone, and Navajo. Seated gracefully upon a sandstone formation beside a venerable bristlecone pine—one of Earth’s most ancient living trees—Prudence evokes both the wisdom of ages past and the enduring strength of native cultures.

In one hand, she holds a mirror, representing introspection and the importance of hindsight in making wise decisions. On her wrist coils a copper serpent-shaped bracelet, a dual symbol of trials and the wisdom gained through overcoming them. At her feet, a chipmunk—nature’s diligent preparer—serves as a reminder of the value of foresight and readiness. Nearby, a vigilant wolf howls, echoing the essential role of gold in a stable economy, much like wolves are keystone species in nature.

Behind her lies the striking Natural Bridge formation in Bryce Canyon National Park, with Canada geese flying in formation—symbols of unity and guidance. Inscribed in the lower right corner is the phrase “Deal Prudently,” a timeless call to action.
