The Oklahoma 5 Goldback celebrates the virtue Industria, or Industry, by capturing a pivotal moment in the state’s economic transformation. Set during the Glenpool Oil Strike of 1905, the artwork shows a young woman stepping through freshly tapped oil fields. Her clothes are still dusty from the earth, and her determined expression reflects discovery, pride, and the thrill of new opportunity.
She wears a tool belt stamped with “1905” to commemorate the strike that helped launch Oklahoma into the national spotlight. Around her neck, a horseshoe pendant symbolizes good fortune. Nearby, honey bees—Oklahoma’s state insect—drift through Indian Blanket wildflowers, reminding us that lasting progress comes from teamwork, structure, and persistence.
Behind her, wildcatters erupt in celebration as an oil derrick spews skyward. To the left, an early oil wagon marked “Glenpool” and a distant windmill reflect the hard work of those who built Oklahoma’s energy sector from scratch. Though Oklahoma’s first well was drilled in 1897, it was Glenpool that ignited a full-scale boom. Within two years, Tulsa earned the title “Oil Capital of the World.”
The phrase inscribed at the bottom, “Labor Omnia Vincit,” means “Labor Conquers All Things.” This note pays tribute not just to oil, but to the determination of the people who built their future with tools in hand and hope in their hearts.
Each 5 Oklahoma Goldback is made with 1/200 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold and comes sealed in a protective plastic sleeve. A UV security feature is embedded on the reverse side for added authenticity. Goldbacks are not legal tender in the United States.
