Seldom Seen Early San Francisco Mint Silver American Eagles
There was a tremendous amount of excitement in 1986, when the United States Mint began the American Silver Eagle program, the most successful U.S. Mint product in the world today. Prior to that, the U.S. Mint did not have a bullion coin available that was recognized by investors and collectors around the globe as a preeminent product.
The United States Mint recently confirmed that 1986 and 1987 bullion American Silver Eagles were struck at the San Francisco Mint. The 1986-S had a mintage of only 5,393,005 issues, and the 1987-S had a mintage of 11,442,335 prices.
