If you’re a purveyor of some of the most interesting coins in existence we bring to you one of the most exciting errors we’ve ever seen.
If you look into the far left field on the obverse, you will see a dramatically “dropped” R. Once you see it you’ll want to own it!
This error would have likely occurred from grease or some other foreign substance becoming compressed into the die and striking a coin. Thus, once upon a time a coin would have existed somewhere (probably melted) that lacked the ‘R’ on it. On the next strike, the grease would have fallen out to create the incuse impression you see on this coin.
The odds sound like one in a million, because they are. We have simply never seen coin of the $20 denomination like it! I can recall only one other instance ever of a “Dropped Letter” occurring on any coin, and that was a $5 Indian we handled about 15 years ago.
This is an extraordinary opportunity while it lasts in a very hot market for spectacular mint errors.
